ST. DON BOSCO
PATREON OF OUR SCHOOL
St. Don Bosco was born in Piedmont of North Italy in the year 1815. From early childhood he had a great influence on children. Our Lord Jesus Christ and Mother Mary repeatedly inspired John, a poor peasant boy what he termed his ‘dream’ to rescue young lads from evil ways and to train them in an honest trade – ‘but only by gentleness and kindness.’ So after his ordination to the priesthood, he set out deliberately to cultivate every means for gaining their confidence and friendship: juggling, sleight of hand tricks, tight-rope walking, playing the violin, singing, telling stories, games and excursions. These he would begin and end with simple prayers.
As Don Bosco’s work became better known and supported by
‘Co-operators’ he was able to establish regular night schools. full time technical schools and apprentice workshops were built by this God-inspired educator. Through them his boys learned their religion, reading, writing and trade under a remarkable educational system, based upon frequent participation in the holy sacraments. Thus he put every effort into the education of youth and founded Religious congregation of the Salesian Institute to teach them and to bring them up in the Christian way of life. He is known as one of the greatest educators of youth.
