RULES AND REGULATIONS

SCHOOL UNIFORM

1.       On School days and functions, the students should wear the school uniform. Students who come to class without the uniform must bring a note of excuse from their parents. The uniform consists of the following:   

                                         Boys                                    

          Summer : Grey Trousers, White Short-sleeved shirt, Black shoes/School Tie, Belt, Grey socks.

          Winter : Grey Trousers, White shirt, Blazer-Navy Blue, Sweater-Navy Blue, Black shoes, School Tie, Belt, Grey socks.

                                        Girls                                  

          Summer : White Blouse,  Grey Pinafore, Black shoes, School Tie, Belt, Grey socks, Black Head-bands or Black Rubber-bands.

          Winter : White Blouse,  Grey Pinafore, Blazer - Navy Blue, Sweater - Navy Blue, Black shoes, School Tie, Belt, Grey socks, Black Head-bands or Black Rubber-bands.

          For Girls of Class IX & X : Salwar Kurta as prescribed by the School.

          P.T. Uniform : (Every Wednesday and Saturday) :

          Boys : House coloured Track suit, White P.T. shoes, White socks

ATTENDANCE, LEAVE AND ABSENCE

1.       A minimum attendance of 75% of the working days is required for promotion. Students should come in time for the general assembly. Late comers are liable to be sent home.

2.       No student should leave the school premises during the school hours without the written permission of the Principal which is granted on the written request of the parents.

3.       No leave of absence for the whole day or a part thereof is granted except for serious reasons and only on a previous written application of the parents or guardians.

4.       A student who is irregular in classes due to different celebrations, trips, visits to relations and places and frequent late comers may be asked to discontinue.

5.       Except for duly approved reasons, extension of vacation is not permitted. Students who extend their holidays for more than 7 days after vacation without sanction will have their names struck off the rolls and vacancies, if any, will be filled from fresh applicants.

6.       Application for medical leave for more than 3 days should be accompanied by a medical certificate by a doctor who is MBBS. If this leave continues for more than seven days, the Principal must be contacted.

7.       All leave applications should bear the signature of the parent or in their absence the guardian. Failure to bring such an application for leave makes the student liable to be sent home.

8.         A student who is absent from the class continuously for 10 days or more without the leave sanctioned by the principal may have his/her name struck off the rolls without any notice. If readmitted he/she will have to pay the full admission fee and other fees for the period of such absence.

THE SCHOOL LIBRARY

Creating a Brighter Future

The School Library

1.       Strict silence has to be observed in the library at all times.

2.       No one is permitted to take a book from the library, without the permission of the librarian and having it duly entered.

3.       Books are issued for the use of the borrower and should not be lent to anybody else. Reference books will not be issued.

4.       Students should take great care in handling the books. Tearing of pages and pictures from the books and magazines is an awfully bad habit which must be avoided at all costs.

5.       The attention of the librarian must be drawn to the books that an intending borrower finds damaged.

6.       Damage done to the books and magazines must be made good by the borrower. In case the book is lost the entire cost has to be deposited with the librarian.

7.       Failure to return a book by the due date incurs a fine of
Rs. 5/- per day for the time the book is overdue.

8.       Books and magazines taken out for reference must be placed in the same place from where they were taken.

9.       All books must be returned 3 days before the beginning of each examination. Failure to do so will debar the student from appearing at the examination.

10.     It is highly recommended that the students take the guidance of the teachers while selecting the books.

SPORTS AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Co-Curricular Activities:
1.       The school attaches great importance to games, co-curricular activities and competitions and all the students are exhorted to take part in them. Children selected for Dramatics, Elocution, Debates, Art and Craft competitions, S.U.P.W. projects must willingly spare time for such activities.
2.       Participation in the Inter-house activities and attendance at school functions, when called upon to do so, is obligatory. The Principal can take action against those students who absent themselves from such activities.
3.       Students should learn to play games in a pure team spirit and in a spirit of sportsmanship, remembering at all times that behaviour on the field is as important as behaviour in class room.
4.       Parents are requested to encourage their children to participate in the co-curricular activities for their integral formation. When they absent themselves without reason, they may be penalised and debarred from further participation in such activities.

1.       On examination days no student is allowed to enter the examination hall or classroom before the general assembly.
2.       No leave other than medical leave, is normally sanctioned during examination period provided a medical certificate from such medical authority as will satisfy the Principal is submitted on the day the student is absent so that appropriate entries may be made in the school records.
3.       Any other leave applied for and taken during the examination will be at the risk of parents and will not be taken into consideration in determining promotion.
4.       In any case a medical certificate is not a guarantee for granting promotion. If a student falls sick for a part or the whole examination he should have the required pass marks from the other examinations held during the year.
5.       Examination will not be anticipated or postponed for individual students. Examination missed will not be conducted again on any account.
6.       Candidates will be disqualified if they are detected in giving or obtaining or attempting to give or obtain unfair assistance at the examination or if they have in their possession while in the examination hall or classroom, any book, memorandum or pocket book, notes or paper except the question paper of the current exam. Unused answer sheets must be submitted to invigilators.
7.       Pass marks in each subject is 35%.
8.       50% marks of  half yearly and 50% of the final examination will be taken into consideration for promotion.
9.       Promotion refused will not be reconsidered. All cases of doubt regarding promotion are left entirely to the discretion of the Principal. Parents must not come for reconsideration for promotion. In no case shall a student be promoted on trial.
10.     Parent/Guardian must sign the report card when it is sent forth and return it within 3 days.
11.     The school does not undertake to retain answer scripts for more than one week after distributing the report cards.
12.     A student failing for two successive years may have to be withdrawn.
13.     Promotion to the next class is based on the annual aggregate that takes the whole year’s performance through tests and examinations.
14.     If some parents feel that justice is not being done to their wards in scrutinizing the answer-scripts, the same can be brought to the notice of the Principal and the Principal at his sole discretion may have the answer-script rechecked.
15.     The evaluation of answer scripts and other works done by the students during the examinations is within the domestic jurisdiction of the school and therefore, no outside person or authority has jurisdiction to check, scrutinize or evaluate the answer scripts or other work done by the students.

Withdrawal:

1.       A month’s notice for withdrawal must be given in writing, duly acknowledged, by the Principal, or a month’s fee in lieu thereof, before the withdrawal of candidate.

2.       Every Transfer Certificate shall be made in writing on the prescribed form by the parent/guardian.

3.       No Transfer Certificate will be granted unless all School dues have been cleared or satisfactorily arranged for and “NO DUES CERTIFICATE” is obtained from the fee counter, Librarian, Laboratory incharge, P.T. master etc. T.C.  will be granted after one month. (Refer to Point No. 1)

Students are strictly forbidden to get cell phones or any electronic gadgets without the prior permission of the Principal or Teacher in-charge.

School Application

General Rules of Discipline

1.       Students are urged to contribute to the high tone of the school by their manner and general behaviour. Hence for smooth running of the school, no student should bring to school any object liable to prove a source of disturbance.
2.       As far as posture, cleanliness, silence, politeness, honesty, attention to work and respect to teachers and companions are concerned the school should be looked upon as a place of reverence and discipline.
3.       Absolute silence must be maintained at all places during the teaching hours, whether it is the library, the laboratories, the general assembly or on way to and from the class rooms.
4.       Respect for one’s property as well as for that of the school and for the things belonging to others is a mark of a well-bred and responsible student. Furniture, teaching aids and charts should be kept in their respective places after use. Any kind of damage done in the school premises must be made good.
5.       It is compulsory to speak in English in the premises in order to facilitate the students the use of the medium of instruction. They should maintain a high standard in their conversation.
6.       No other books, newspapers, periodicals, pictures, games, articles, not pertaining to their daily use should be brought to the school without the class teacher/principal’s permission. If detected or found to have bad influence on the fellow students, these will be confiscated and students found guilty may be punished.
7.       The school does not accept responsibility for the loss of books, money, stationery etc. Each student is responsible for his/her own things. Bringing of valuables to the school is forbidden. If the articles are brought for genuine reasons, they must be handed over to the Principal/Head Mistress or teachers and the same may be collected after the school.
8.       The Principal may take action on a student for habitual idleness, disobedience or misconduct injurious to the moral tone of the school. He may even dismiss a student or ask him to discontinue if he is found guilty of serious matters.
9.       No fines or collection for any purpose whatsoever may be made without the previous sanction of the Principal. So also presentation of gifts to members of the staff requires previous sanction.
10.     In the absence of the teachers, the class monitor/monitress assumes responsibility for order and discipline of the class. He/she should fulfil his/her duty with loyalty and impartiality.
11.     Students who are given any responsibility should carry it out dutifully and impartially and in accordance with the direction of the Principal or the teacher deputed by him/her. They should consider it as a service to the school and to their fellow students.
12.     Students can always approach the Principal individually for any reasonable or sympathetic consideration but not collectively.
13.     No student may take private tuition in any subject from any member of the school staff without the written permission of the Principal . All such approved tuitions must be discontinued one week before every examination.
14.     At the first bell all must gather classwise immediately for the Assembly where they will pray in common and move silently to their class rooms.
15.     The general Assembly is the most important part of the school day. Every student should be present at it to begin the day with prayer to God, and listen to the important announcement.
16.     Students should be friendly, courteous and cooperative towards other students of the school, treating everyone with respect and conducting themselves in a dignified manner.
17.     All must come to school in time neatly dressed with lessons well prepared and home work done. Text and exercise books and material for drawing, art, crafts should be brought to school according to the day’s routine.
18.     Students should keep their classroom and the school compound spotlessly clean using the bins provided for waste paper and rubbish.
19.     Students are not allowed to visit staff-room without prior permission of either the Principal or the teacher.
20.     Any pupil who is persistently insubordinate or repeatedly turns mischievous or is guilty of malpractices in connection with examinations or has committed an offence of serious indiscipline/misbehaviour or who in the opinion of Principal has an unwholesome influence on his fellow students may be removed for a specified period or expelled permanently from the school.
21.     A student may also be removed permanently from the school for assaulting a teacher, seriously attacking a fellow student, persistent rude behaviour towards teachers and in the opinion of the Principal has a demoralizing influence on fellow students.
22.     A disciplinary action may be taken on students repeatedly coming late or forgetting to bring books or coming without the proper uniform to the school.
23.     Students are strictly forbidden to get cell phones or any electronic gadgets without the prior permission of the Principal or Teacher in-charge.
24.     Students are also advised to use the Social Media (facebook, WhatsApp, emails etc.) in a healthy way, and never write anything pertaining to the school, lest an action may be initiated against the offenders.

Parent – Teacher Meeting

1.       Parent–Teacher Meetings are held regularly.
2.       Parents/Guardians are requested to make use of this opportunity to meet the teachers and discuss the progress of their children. This will enable the teacher to understand the children better and consequently pay special attention to their needs.
3.       These meetings are contact meetings because the school, teacher and parents are all involved in the education of the child. These are also occasions for the parents to let the teacher know that they do care for her/his effort and the progress of their child. They can always help the progress of the institution by way of suggestions, guidance and specially by their co-operation and collaboration.
4.       As far as possible all requests to meet the teachers to discuss the courses or any other matter pertaining to studies should be kept for the Parent–Teacher meeting. In urgent cases the Principal’s permission is needed to meet the teachers in the school.

DON BOSCO HIGH SCHOOL

1.       Parents are expected to co-operate with the school authorities and the teachers by enforcing regularity and discipline, supervising the lessons, taking active part in the school activities and by sending the children with proper uniform, books and study materials.

2.       Occasional remarks from the teachers and the Principal are made in the school diary for information to the parents. In such cases they should never fail to sign the diary to show their acknowledgment.

3.       Parents are expected to sign the note books when they are sent for it. Failure to do so may put their children to great inconvenience. They should particularly check leave and absence records.

4.       When communicating with the Principal, parents/guardians are requested to mention in their letter the name of the student class and section with their signatures.

5.       Parents are strictly forbidden to interview their children and the teacher in the class or in the staff room without the permission of the principal.

6.       Tipping the servants either during or after the school hours must be avoided at all costs.

7.       Parents must intimate the school whenever their residential address or telephone numbers are changed in order to communicate to them in urgent matters, in the interest of their children.

8.       Answer papers of the examination will be shown to the parents as and when possible.  Application for verification of marks in special cases will be considered at the discretion of school authorities.

9.       Parents should insist on their children devoting daily enough time to learn their lessons before they come to school. On holidays some time should be devoted to study at home.

10.     If parents or guardians find that their ward is not picking up right habits or is not progressing satisfactorily in his/her studies, they should make an appointment with the Principal to discuss the matter.

11.     Parents are requested not to send for or call away their children during class hours except in case of unforeseen situation and that too with the Principal’s permission.

12.     Parents should understand that they cannot dictate to the Principal but that the Principal has the right to say on what conditions he will admit or retain pupils in the institution.

13.     Principal must be informed of the absence of the students at the earliest.

14.     Should there be any infectious disease at home parents should report the fact to the Principal at once and the child should not be sent to the school till he/she is fully cured. The Doctor’s Certificate to attend the class must be brought the day the child is fit to join the school.

15.     If a student is likely to be absent due to illness for a long period the Principal must be informed immediately through an application with the name class and section of their ward.

16.     Parents/guardians are requested to send their wards to school in full uniform, clean and tidy and in time.

17.     Tuitions are strongly discouraged. Parents who seek admissions in this school and look out for tutors, are taking a risk as they will depend on the sincerity of the tutors.

18.     If inspite of all help given, a child fails to show any progress the same may be discussed with the Principal/Head Mistress, Class/Subject Teachers and the Principal/Head Mistress may permit extra coaching by a member of the staff.

19.     To ensure integrity and dedication of the members of the staff, the following are the guidelines for them :

(i)      No member of the staff of this institution may undertake a tuition without the sanction of the Principal.

(ii)     No staff member of this institution is permitted to visit the homes of the children to give tuition, or suggest the need of private tuition.

(iii)    A parent/guardian desirous of arranging a private tuition from a staff member of this institution shall apply in writing to the Principal, who after ascertaining the merit of the application, may forward it to any member of the staff.

(iv)    It is to be clearly understood by both parents and the tutors that coaching is an exception. It is primarily to help the child to gain confidence and right habit of study and as soon as the child is able to cope up with his/her studies, tuition should be discontinued.

(v)     A teacher who values tuition work more than her/his dedication to duty and his/her work suffers, puts himself/herself in danger of having his/her service to this institution, terminated. Parents are requested not to bring pressure on a teacher in this regard but be conscious and fair in their dealing in the manner.

(vi)    All tuition work shall end a week before the examinations.

20.     Criticism of the teachers or of the school in the presence of children, should be studiously avoided because it causes them to lose respect to those teachers and subsequent failure to learn from them. Should a parent have genuine complaint it may be brought to the notice of the Principal.

21.     Parents are exhorted not to listen to unwarranted gossips and spread the same as it causes untold damage to the institution. Let us remember that to build an institution requires many years of effort but destroy, it can take only a day.

22.     Parents should always keep in mind that the school, its teachers and the parents are linked together in a continuous process for the integral formation of the child. Even in difficult situations calm and gentleness should be displayed so that the atmosphere is cordial, realizing that the net result of recriminations fall ultimately on the child. If the relation with the school is not cordial, it is advisable for parents to shift their children to other institution of their choice.

23.     Parents are requested to send the Tiffin Box alongwith the child to avoid any casuality. The school will not take any responsibility regarding the Tiffin Box if it is delievered at the school gate.

          Conclusion

1.       The school Managing Committee reserves the right to waive any of the rules contained in this prospectus, without assigning any reason for its action.

2.     The final interpretation of any rule of this prospectus as well as any amendment to it rests solely and entirely with the Managing Committee of the school. Its interpretation shall be final and binding on parents and students of this institution and no case shall lie in any court of law in respect of its decision.
